This story was related to me by Nancy Feakes, Recreation Manager, at the Mark Twain National Forest in Rolla, Missouri as we near the close of the food drive for 2010: "We had about a dozen folks representing the Mark Twain NF at the unloading and prebagging at the distribution center last night. We started by unloading an estimated 1315 pounds of food that we had collected, (412 cans of soup, 400 boxes of various kinds of pasta, 402 assorted cans of fruit, and 400 cans of various kinds of vegetables, plus a few miscellaneous items, so we met our goal, and should have 1 can or box of each of those items for each family, unless there is a larger than average turn-out). We stayed to unload the truck with the USDA commodities, the various second harvest items, etc, and to help bag the frozen bread, and the ton of potatoes ready for distribution on Saturday morning - took about 2 hours, (plus the time to load, haul, and unload our own contributions). The organizer said that we had good timing - their other sources didn't provide as much this month as is provided on an average month, and since college doesn't start here until next Monday, they didn't have nearly as many volunteers helping unload and set up as they do during the school year. We expect to have a least a couple of volunteers helping with the distribution on Saturday." Great Job!
