CABINET MEMBERS TO DELIVER FOOD TO CAPITAL AREA FOOD BANK
OPM Director John Berry, Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan and Senator Daniel Akaka will hold the second event for OPM’s "Feds Feed Families" summer long food drive.
What
The Capital Area Food Bank will receive a much needed boost on Tuesday when Cabinet Members deliver food collected by federal employees in their ongoing effort to donate 1 million pounds of food. The effort is part of the “Feds Feed Families” food drive launched by OPM this past June as part of President Obama's "United We Serve" initiative.
The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest public, nonprofit food and nutrition education resource in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. Last year, the CAFB distributed 23 million pounds of food and served more than 700 nonprofit member agencies, including food pantries, day care and recreation centers, senior centers, faith-based organizations, homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
